The company initially registered under the name of CELROM S.A. started production in 1972, with an annual output of 40,000 tonnes. Subsequently, during the years 1999-2000, a series of technical upgrades were made. Also during this time, the paper machine underwent a reconstruction, whose main purpose was to increase the production capacity to 70,000 ton/year.
In 2012, the factory together with all the annexes and facilities belonging to CELROM S.A., was purchased (private capital) – and thus it became the “Combinatul de Celuloză și Hârtie S.A.” (The Cellulose and Paper Plant S.A.).The vision for the former colossus was, from the beginning, to implement a comprehensive program to increase the quality of output products, but also to increase the energy efficiency of implicit and related processes. In this respect, successive upgrades were applied quickly which led to the improvement of working conditions by the introduction of process computers, so that, at present, technological processes are organized through Distributed Control System (DCS) and Quality Control System ( QCS). The immediate effect was the obvious improvement of the quality of the manufactured products.
Presently, the annual production capacity of the factory is 80,000 ton/year of paper with weights ranging from 112 to 200 g/m².
